ICAI Chief On Global Tax Vision
The President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, CA. Prasanna Kumar, has outlined the profession's role in a changing international tax environment. In a communication to members, he said India's deeper involvement in cross-border trade and investment is opening new avenues for Chartered Accountants. He called for a taxation framework that is transparent, competitive and predictable.

The ICAI President noted that technology and economic interdependence have reshaped how businesses operate across borders. As Indian firms expand overseas and foreign businesses engage more with India, he said the tax ecosystem must balance revenue protection with compliance ease, investment certainty and growth. He pointed to India's Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements, which seek to reduce double taxation and clarify taxing rights between countries. Transfer pricing rules based on the arm's length principle aim to ensure associated enterprises transact on terms similar to independent parties. He also cited Advance Pricing Agreements and the Mutual Agreement Procedure as tools for resolving interpretational issues and preventing disputes, along with India's participation in tax information exchange and international cooperation.
New Law And Professional Role
The President flagged the commencement of the Income-tax Act, 2025, from 1 April 2026 as a significant milestone in direct tax legislation, with transitional provisions governing earlier tax years where applicable. He said Chartered Accountants should go beyond a traditional reading of tax laws and become strategic advisers with technical knowledge, technological proficiency and commercial understanding. This, he said, would help Indian businesses navigate international markets.
