Why a blank credit file matters

Reaching age 30 with no borrowing record is not a barrier in itself, but it does leave lenders short of data. A credit history is the record that shows how an individual has handled borrowed money, whether repayments were made on schedule, and how likely default may be. Without it, a lender has limited information to assess creditworthiness, which can slow down or complicate a loan application. Venkatesan further cautions against applying simultaneously to several lenders for loans or cards, as frequent hard inquiries can hurt a profile. He advises checking credit reports regularly to spot errors early, citing data showing that nearly two-thirds of first-time borrowers move into low-risk categories within a year of their first loan.
