Gujarat bank holiday tomorrow 31 Oct 2026 Saturday: Not open; here is why branches are closed | RBI Ahmedabad calendar

News Desk31 Oct 2026 2 min read

Banks in Ahmedabad will remain closed on October 31 for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary, though banks elsewhere in India will remain open. Details here.

Ahmedabad Banks Shut On 31 October

All public and private sector banks operating in Ahmedabad will stay shut on Saturday, 31 October, on account of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. The closure applies to branches in Ahmedabad alone; banking operations in the rest of the country will run as usual. Patel, a towering figure in Gujarat and national politics, began his public career in the city, joining the Gujarat Sabha in 1915, winning election to the Ahmedabad Municipality in 1917 and serving as its president from 1924.

Why It Matters For Businesses

The shutdown flows from the Reserve Bank of India's annual state-wise holiday calendar, under which holidays are notified separately for each region based on local festivals and observances. Although 31 October falls on a Saturday, it is the fifth Saturday of the month and therefore not a scheduled weekly bank holiday under RBI rules, which is why branches elsewhere remain functional. For legal, tax and compliance teams, the practical effect is confined to Ahmedabad: cheque presentations, demand draft collections, physical remittances and over-the-counter filings routed through local branches may face a one-day delay. October itself carries eleven bank holidays, separate from regular Sunday closures and the second and fourth Saturdays.

Digital Channels Stay Available

Branch closure does not halt banking altogether. Customers can continue using internet and mobile banking unless their service provider flags a technical issue. ATMs remain operational throughout, and UPI and bank apps can be used for payments to merchants and individuals. Fund transfer requests through NEFT or RTGS forms, demand draft requests and cheque book requests can still be submitted, as can card services, account maintenance forms, standing instruction setups and locker applications.
